ASSOCIATION BETWEEN ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTANTS AND HEALTH IN THE GENERAL POPULATION

The project concerns the study of the impact of an oil-refinery plant on the general health of the population living nearby. Different study designs have been implemented in order to analyse the association between air pollutants and health:

  • an ecological study to study long term effects on hospitalization and mortality
  • a case-control study to study short-term effects on hospitalization for cardio-respiratory diseases
  • a prevalence study to estimate prevalence of respiratory diseases
  • a coohort study to estimate incidence of respiratory diseases

The candidate will be involved in data quality control, descriptive and inferential analisis. The candidate must have a good knowledge of of study design epidemiological and statistical methods. This project provides sufficient material to carry out three different theses.
